Retail staff reluctant to sell Sony Ericsson

Many believed the Satio would put the manufacturer in a strong position.

Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4u staffers are reluctant to sell Sony Ericsson handsets after the removal of the Satio from their stores.

Many had believed that the phone would help the manufacturer achieve a stronger position in the competitive consumer market in the run up to Christmas. However, due to software issues, sales of the handset were suspended in both retailers late last week.

A Carphone Warehouse staffer said: ‘The W810i was probably one of the best phones around when it first launched and from those dizzy heights they [Sony Ericsson] have gone downhill. A lot of people are really reluctant to sell Sony Ericsson – it has been a disaster for them.’

One senior manufacturer source said: ‘When you miss your slot you miss your slot. Even when it goes back on the shelves, sales people won’t bother to sell it. It’s certainly a blow for them [Sony Ericsson].’
