Smartphones to drive revenues for flexible PCB and CCL makers

With handset vendors launching smartphones to tap seasonal demand in the latter half of the year, major Taiwan-based flexible PCB and copper-clad laminate (FCCL) makers have seen increases in orders, according to market watchers.

FPCB maker Flexium Interconnect saw its consolidated revenues hit an all-time high of NT$388.89 million (US$12.11 million) in June, up 5.6% sequentially and 40.8% on year.

New tablet PCs and smartphones launched by Flexium's clients in the US and increasing sales of FPCBs for LED light bar and touch-panel applications helped push up the company's revenues, indicated the sources, noting that sales to the US clients currently account for 30% of Flexium's total revenues.

Flexium is expected to see its revenue to grow 12.5% sequentially to NT$1.25-1.3 billion in the third quarter, the sources estimated.

Career Technology has posted consolidated revenues of NT$847 million for June, declining 3.7% from the previous month, according to the company. For the second quarter of 2010, consolidated revenues reached NT$2.62 billion, an increase of 33.3% from the previous quarter.

Career's revenues are likely to expand 10-15% sequentially in the third quarter, the sources projected.

FCCL maker Taiflex Scientific saw its consolidated revenues soar 59.5% on year to NT$541.69 million in the second quarter. However, the monthly figures represented a decline of 7.9% from the previous month due to delayed shipments by some clients.

Taiflex's second-quarter revenues were NT$1.69 billion, increasing 29.4% from a year earlier.
