Huawei RCS Hard Terminal Wins GSMA Joyn Accreditation

Huawei, a leading global information and communication technology (ICT) solution provider, today announced that the U8815 Asura, Huawei's self-developed Android-based Rich Communication Suite (RCS) hard terminal, has been awarded the Joyn accreditation from the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA). This award certifies Huawei as a GSMA-accredited RCS client supplier.

Joyn is a consumer brand established by GSMA that helps consumers better understand and identify RCS services. In order to adopt the Joyn brand, mobile operators and device manufacturers must participate in the InterOperability Testing (IOT) accreditation process through which their devices, networks, and services are tested. GSMA implemented the accreditation to simplify the IOT process, accelerate Time To Market (TTM) of Joyn services, and improve interoperability between RCS clients and networks. This enables consumers to have access to enriched voice and messaging services.

The accreditation was awarded in Madrid, Spain, where Huawei's RCS hard terminal was interworked with the Vodafone Spain network and passed the 140 test cases as required by GSMA. Huawei's RCS client consists of a hard terminal and software client and although the accreditation was awarded to the hard terminal, both parts use the same software development kit (SDK) and therefore provide equal service capabilities.

Huawei's GSMA accreditation demonstrates that the company's RCS client is commercially viable in accredited RCS networks. In doing so, Huawei will use the Joyn brand to promote its RSC client in global mobile markets.
