Samsung rolls out July SMR for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in India

Almost 24 hours after it started distributing this month’s Security Maintenance Release (SMR) for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in India, Samsung is now in the midst of rolling out an identical update for all unlocked variants of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in the region. As noted in the changelog that was published three weeks ago, the upgrade (dated July 1), transports all of Google’s latest patches for the Android OS, in addition to a handful of Samsung-specific optimizations, which includes a fix for a vulnerability that resulted in the Jack audio service enabling malicious applications to access or modify values in shared memory.

As usual, the update is being rollout out in stages. However, if you own a Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge, reside in India and would you’d like to see if its ready for your device, all you have to do is head into Settings » About Device, then tap the Download updates manually button. Alternatively, you can wait until you receive a push notification prompting you to download and install the update from Samsung’s servers, but you’ll only receive this prompt in a timely manner if you’re connected to a stable, secure Wi-Fi network and have at least 50% of battery, or you’re plugged into a power outlet.
