AR dragons, Instafamous dogs and a musical acquisition

It’s finally Friday and we’ve all been looking forward to a well-deserved weekend! But before you head out of the door, why not take a look at this week’s round up of what’s been going on in the worlds of Sony and Android.

First up, do you consider yourself to be a Disney fan? If so, it looks like you’re in for a big treat this week.  Android Authority  just announced the launch of Disney’s new AR app, centred on its remake of Pete’s Dragon. The AR app makes dragons a reality in your world and after taking a look at the way that it works, we can safely say it’s pretty impressive. The app, powered by Google, can recognize chairs, tables, lamps, chairs, beds, trees, and many other objects in your environment. Once it identifies them, it generates a CGI dragon that interacts with them! The app uses machine learning to correctly identify objects, and it’s the same branch of research that Google is using to detect people’s emotions from photographs and automatically moderate comments on the internet. Cool stuff.

So whether you show it off to your imaginative kids, or fancy using it yourself, make sure you let us know your thoughts on the Disney AR app.

Staying on the topic of gaming, this week PlayStation announced that one-of-a-kind fantasy platformer Lichtspeer is on its way to PS4 and PS Vita. In case you haven’t heard of it, Lichtspeer is an object of tremendous power, bestowed upon the player by the ‘Lichtgods’. The aim of the game is to ‘survive with style’ and expand your powers to fight for ultimate glory. You will go through an epic journey, travelling through forests and ancient deserts, over futuristic cities battling a whole range of villains. Sounds fun, right? We’ve posted the full trailer below for you to enjoy.

Next up, there was some extremely exciting news this week in the wider Sony world, as it was announced that Sony Music Entertainment UK Ltd. completed the acquisition of Ministry of Sound Recordings Ltd. The acquisition means that Sony Music UK has acquired the label outright, including its artists, back catalogue and compilations business! In the past ten years, the Ministry of Sound has established a huge collection of contemporary talent, including Eric Prydz, Example and Wretch 32. The new partnership will allow Ministry of Sound Recordings to grow its recorded music offering on a truly global scale and its future is certainly looking bright.

Yes, that’s right, your pet is more likely to be successful on social media than you.

We revealed almost one quarter (23%) of pet owners surveyed in Europe, admit that their pet has its own social media account. Even the smaller pets like gerbils and rabbits show off their lifestyles on a range of social media platforms.  We put all of our research into an infographic, which you can see here. Does your pet have its own profile? Let us know by commenting below.

That’s all we have time for right now. Enjoy your weekend and remember you can keep up on the latest Sony and Android news by following our Twitter page.
