Huawei Presents Latest 5G Research Achievements at the PT/EXPO CHINA

Huawei presented their latest 5G network research at PT/EXPO CHINA 2016 in Beijing this week. Alongside the results of recent tests, key research achievements were also unveiled including advancements in 5G air interface, network architecture that supports flexible slicing, and 5G prototypes for high band and low band.

The IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group is leading the China 5G field trials plan with telecommunication operators and vendors. As a core member of the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, Huawei has participated in a number of tests and made tangible contributions to the group’s development.

Last April, Huawei, together with China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom, completed first-stage field test verification of 5G air interface technologies. The trial results show tripled spectrum efficiency improvement. Flexible air interface slicing was also successfully tested using a combination of technology components.

Network slicing tests for three types of services have also helped successfully implement network slice generation for millions of users, network function reconstruction, and flexible deployment of the user plane in the control and user plane (CUPS) architecture where user plane and control planes are separated.

Huawei is currently co-operating with Chinese operators to build field trials in Beijing to conduct verification tests on spectrum efficiency improvement and network architecture innovation under multiple 5G service scenarios during the second stage trial.

Gan Bin, Vice President of Huawei Wireless Network Product Line, said at the PT/EXPO China, "The success of 5G relies on the development of the global industry ecosystem. Huawei will remain open-minded and look to strengthen cooperation to promote a global unified 5G standard and make new contributions to the communications industry."

In recent months, Huawei has also completed the first verification of high and low frequency band hybrid networking with China Mobile, released the first 5G end-to-end slicing prototype with Deutsche Telekom, and conducted the verification of 5G architecture with Vodafone.

Due to its efforts on innovation, collaboration and continuous investment in 5G, Huawei has won awards for ‘Biggest Contribution to 5G Development’ in 2015, ‘Best Efforts Towards 5G’ and ‘Most Notable Partnership Between an Operator and Solutions Provider for 5G Trials and Development’ with Deutsche Telekom in 2016.
