Taiwan market: Motorola and Sony Ericsson to launch low-cost handsets for back-to-school demand

Motorola and Sony Ericsson both plan to introduce new entry-level handsets in the Taiwan market in September to cash in on back-to-school demand, according to sources at Taiwan's retail channels.

Motorola will bring in the low-cost W396 and W231 handsets, in addition to the mid-range sliding form-factor Motozine ZN200 and candy-bar type EM30, the sources noted.

The W396 and W231 are both manufactured by Compal Communications, with the candy-bar W231 to be available at NT$2,680 (US$85.40), the sources noted.

Sony Ericsson plans to launch the sliding form-factor T303 handset at NT$4,500 in the Taiwan market, said the sources.
