Huawei Deploys Industry's Longest 40G Commercial Transport Network for TransTeleCom

The Network Requires No Electric Regeneration, Connects Moscow and St. Petersburg

[Moscow, 29 May 2008] Huawei Technologies ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced that it has successfully deployed the industry's longest 40G commercial transport network for TransTeleCom (TTC), a top three fixed telecom carrier in Russia. The 1,141 km network, connecting Moscow and St. Petersburg, requires no electric regeneration.

The solution uses Huawei's patented SuperWDM technologies to achieve ultra-long haul transmission without electrical regeneration at distances of over 1,500km. Huawei's C-band extension patent technology can help operators increase their fiber transmission bandwidth by an extra 20%, which makes Huawei the only vendor with a transmission capacity of 3.84T – the largest in the industry.

Furthermore, Huawei's 40G transport solution can be upgraded from 10G to 40G without any platform replacement, providing new services 75% faster than previously possible.

"Even today telecom operators are faced with the problem of having insufficient capacity on their backbone transport networks," said Evgeniy Zhukov, head of optical network group of Huawei products and solutions department. "Presently the most viable solution is the 40G transfer technologies which can increase the capacity and efficiency of existing DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing)systems. Huawei is the first company in Russia to demonstrate the operability of 40G technologies in real networks."

"By 2009 all TransTeleCom's DWDM backbones will be updated to 40G transfer per wavelength. It is a natural stage of backbone development, which is necessary to satisfy the constantly growing demand for bandwidth," said Andrei Pavlov, senior vice-president, head of TTC technical development department. "Thanks to Huawei's advanced DWDM equipment, 40G channels can be activated quickly without restructuring the existing network."

Huawei's 40G solutions have been deployed in Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific. By the end of 2007, Huawei has deployed over 650,000 sets of OptiX optical network series in more than 100 countries. According to Ovum RHK, Huawei ranked No. 2 in the optical network market in the world with a market share of 14% in 2007.
