MediaTek ups 3Q sales growth guidance to 22-25%
After reassessing current market demands and customer orders, MediaTek now expects its third quarter revenues to grow 22-25% sequentially, compared with its prior
expectation of 8-10% sequential growth, according to a company filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE). The company also reported consolidated net sales in August of NT$9.5 billion, an increase of 10.12% from NT$8.6 billion in July.
While admitting that its very challenge to accurately predict the China handset market's seasonality pattern because of the volatility, MediaTek indicated that the upward outlook revision for this quarter was mainly because of strong handset demand from BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) markets and other emerging
markets.
MediaTek added that customers pull in for handset ICs orders in September has been strong due to demand from the upcoming "China Golden Week" in early October. The company also indicated it has low visibility for fourth quarter orders.
