Telenav Tops New ABI Research Off-Board Handset-based Navigation Software Vendor Matrix Ranking
Telenav has been ranked at the top of the latest Vendor Matrix released by ABI Research.
Networks in Motion and Telmap claimed the second and third spots in the company’s new evaluation of worldwide off-board handset-based navigation software vendors.
The Vendor Matrix is an analytical tool developed by ABI Research to provide a clear understanding of vendors’ positions in specific markets. Vendors are assessed on the important parameters of “innovation” and “implementation” across several criteria unique to each vendor matrix.
According to research director Dominique Bonte, “With Telenav and Networks In Motion clearly emerging as the two highest ranked off-board navigation software vendors, Telenav has the edge due to its recent launch of speech technology, a large number of agreements with carriers across all regions and the successful combination of a branded and white label strategy.”
The third rank was a close contest between Telmap, Appello, Jentro Technologies, Google and Wayfinder with Telmap claiming the third rank due to the openness of its platform, large number of navigation features and global presence.
“Google’s 4th rank is remarkable,” Bonte adds, “with its superior implementation compensating the lack of fully automated navigation features.”
For this particular matrix, under "innovation" ABI Research examined the availability and quality of navigation features, the use of speech technology, local search functions and traffic information as well as pricing options and interfaces with other applications.
Under "implementation," ABI Research scrutinized the following criteria: market share, number of partnerships, marketing strategy, customization, quality and global coverage.
