Tellabs Harnesses The Power Of Verizon Wired And Wireless Solutions To Conduct Global Business

Agreements Provide Global Networking Services and PDAs

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Tellabs, a leading provider of solutions that enable advanced video, data and voice services, signed two new agreements for wired and wireless network services from Verizon. The services will enable Tellabs to better connect with its extended network of customers, partners and employees.

Under the first agreement, Verizon Business designed and deployed a global networking solution incorporating Verizon Private IP, long-distance and Internet services that will link more than 3,500 Tellabs employees at 50 sites worldwide. Under the second agreement, Verizon Wireless will become Tellabs’ preferred provider for wireless services, which will include account management, billing tools, management of devices including BroadbandAccess PC cards, and other applications.

“The availability of Verizon Business’ Private IP service in key global business centers and the reliability of the Verizon Wireless network in the U.S. were critical for us,” said Jean Holley, executive vice president and chief information officer, Tellabs. “We were able to work with Verizon as a total business partner to help mobilize our business across wired and wireless network environments to more effectively communicate with our customers, partners and employees.”

Enabling Tellabs’ Carrier Ethernet Mission Around the World
As a leading provider of Ethernet switching and routing technology, Tellabs wanted to use that technology to link its own network to the global network solution that Verizon Business will deploy for the company. Verizon Business is providing the connection that will help link the two networks. This will also help Tellabs meet the growing demand for Carrier Ethernet services around the globe.
Verizon Private IP service will enable Tellabs to improve key business processes, database management and customer communications, and to control operational costs. The MPLS-based service is designed to link Tellabs’ sites to key locations in Espoo, Finland; Singapore; and the company’s U.S. headquarters in Naperville, Ill.

In addition to Verizon Business Private IP, Tellabs also relies on Verizon Internet Dedicated service, which leverages the world’s most connected Internet backbone.

“Verizon Business’ expansive private and public IP footprint is helping to take Tellabs where it wants to go,” said Richard G. Black, senior vice president of corporate accounts for Verizon Business. “Both companies recognize the power of Carrier Ethernet as an important access method and wide-area networking technology. Together, we share a vision of embracing and enabling new business capabilities around the world.”

To help Tellabs employees communicate when and where they need to do business, Verizon Wireless has already deployed 1,300 devices, including the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition and BlackBerry 8330 Pearl from Verizon Wireless. The wireless arrangement includes a corporate training program to help the Tellabs workforce fully benefit from the features and functions of the state-of-the-art personal digital assistants.

“We are proud to support a leader like Tellabs as they work to strengthen their customer communications using the reliable Verizon Wireless network,” said Mark Bartolomeo, vice president of enterprise data at Verizon Wireless. “By working together, the new solution should boost operational metrics and show results on the bottom line.”

Unified Customer Portal
To help manage its overall business relationship with the company, Tellabs uses the Verizon Enterprise Center (VEC), a secure, flexible, one-stop global portal that enables users to access critical information to manage their Verizon Business and Verizon Wireless services. This online resource is available from virtually anywhere in the world at any time.

Tellabs uses a number of key VEC features, including the Dashboard, which provides a near-real-time overview of network topology on a single screen. The Dashboard helps customers manage and monitor their voice, data and Internet network resources and troubleshoot areas of improvement. Tellabs also uses the VEC for its sophisticated online billing capabilities, so the company can improve productivity and control costs by managing invoices electronically and achieve its environmental goals by reducing the use of paper bills.
