FIH reportedly aiming to make customized handsets for telecom service providers
Foxconn International Holdings (FIH), the Hong Kong-listed handset manufacturing subsidiary of Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), plans to venture into the production of customized handsets for global telecom service providers, according to media reports in Hong Kong.
FIH's move is probably a response to dwindling handset orders from its major clients, including Motorola and Nokia, whose business prospects have been affected by the current worldwide economic slump, the reports quoted Frederick Wong of BNP Paribas as indicating.
FIH has been strengthening its design and manufacturing capabilities for the production of smartphones in China for sometime, aiming to solicit smartphone orders from Nokia, or to duplicate the successful business model as demonstrated by High Tech Computer (HTC), the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) quoted industry sources in Taiwan as saying.
