MTN Uganda Collaborates with Motorola Global Services to Improve Network Performance
Three-year deal to deliver added reliability and call quality to Ugandan subscribers
Kampala, Uganda – 15 December 2008 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced a three-year, multi-million dollar network optimization services contract with mobile operator MTN Uganda, which will result in improvements in the voice, data and roaming experience for MTN’s subscribers. A specific area of focus will be on improving MTN’s packet data network performance, throughput and capacity of the networks. This is aimed at improving the quality of data experience for MTN’s customers, as well as allowing the MTN to realize full revenue potential of its data products.
“The efficacy of our network is directly linked to the quality of service experienced by our customers. With this services contract with Motorola in place, MTN customers can expect further improvements in reliability and quality across Uganda,” said Francis Kazinduki, CTO, MTN Uganda.
Today’s announcement further strengthens the relationship between Motorola and MTN. Earlier this year Motorola and MTN Nigeria announced a contract that tasked Motorola with improving the performance of the operator’s multi-vendor network across its serving area.
“The phenomenal growth of mobile telecoms in Africa is placing new pressures and demands on operators' existing network infrastructure, which require new solutions that go beyond conventional planning and management techniques in order to improve service experience,” said Eric Pradier, vice president, Motorola Global Services EMEA.
Motorola's multi-vendor capability allows a consistent and repeatable approach to optimization, irrespective of the network equipment vendors involved. The service has been tailored to deliver a cost-effective benchmarking, auditing and optimization of the network to provide optimal network performance and subscriber experience where needed and as the network evolves.
Motorola’s network optimization services use market-leading analytical tools, actual end-user subscriber data, and experienced mobile network experts, to provide an innovative and proven alternative to traditional optimization methods which result in CAPEX and OPEX efficiencies for the network service provider. . The services help to improve performance in a single or multi-vendor environment, while ensuring that the network operates at peak performance.
