CHT 2009 capex unaffected by economic slump
Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) expects its capital expenditure (capex) for 2009 not to be affected by the current economic slump, according to company chairman Shyue-ching Lu.
As the company will continue to stress on the development of its core business and improve its efficiency, the capex budget for 2009 will likely maintain at the same level of 2008, at around NT$30 billion (US$906.3 million), Lu revealed.
However, CHT will turn more cautious toward investments in other businesses, for which no budget will be appropriated in 2009, the Chinese-language Commercial Times quoted Lu as saying. CHT has invested over NT$10 billion in other businesses or companies over the part two years, the paper noted.
