Apple and Adobe team up for Flash for iPhone

The total lack of Adobe Flash on the iPhone truly tinges what is otherwise the ultimate mobile web experience. But at last it looks as if Apple is admitting defeat in its battle to own web video, with Adobe confirming the two top tech players are working on a specially designed version of the software for the cell.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Adobe's CEO, Shantanu Narayen said that while it was a "hard technical challenge" both companies were already collaborating on a new edition. According to out–of–action Apple man Steve Jobs, Flash runs too slow on the iPhone and Flash Lite, the slimmed down version, "isn't compatible with the web."

Getting Flash working on the iPhone would certainly be a great compromise, and give Apple's phone a timely boost as competitors including the Palm Pre finally start to give Cupertino's suits a scare.

Apple has recently hit out at the likes of Palm for stealing their ideas, and with Google Android coming up on the rails, they'll have to pull out all the stops with the next–gen iPhone to ensure it maintains its place as the phone that the man on the street craves.
