Motorola in talks to release handset rush orders to makers in Taiwan and China
Motorola's procurement unit for Greater China has been in talks with handset makers in Taiwan and China for the possible release of rush handset orders, according to sources at Taiwan handset makers.
The procurement unit has already contacted a number of Taiwan handset makers, including Compal Communications, Arima Communications, Chi Mei Communication Systems (CMCS), Foxlink and Qisda, for possible cooperation, the sources indicated.
The rush orders, which will include feature handsets and smartphones, are scheduled for shipments within one or two quarters.
Motorola plans to launch fewer new handsets this year due to downsizing of its R&D team, the sources added.
