Timesys Announces LinuxLink Update Service & Git Tree
Subscribers save precious time tracking relevant open source community updates
Pittsburgh, PA – Timesys Corporation (http://www.timesys.com), a premier provider of embedded Linux software solutions, announced the activation of an open source Linux update service for LinuxLink subscribers. The LinuxLink Update Service alerts users about new and updated Linux components that are relevant to their development and provides easy access and integration to selected updates via the Timesys Factory and Timesys Git tree.
The Update Service enables developers to take advantage of patches in a controlled and orderly manner, reducing the risk associated with using unknown code and the time it takes to research community activity themselves. Update alerts are specific to a subscriber’s ongoing development as they use the Timesys Factory Build System to customize their Linux platform. Git is a distributed Source Code Management and Version Control system as developed by the open source community and hosted on kernel.org.
“LinuxLink’s Update Service saves precious time and reduces the associated risks of keeping pace with a continuous stream of open source community updates.” said Gregory Quiggle, Vice President of Marketing for Timesys. “The Timesys engineering team lives on the many mailing lists and websites of the embedded Linux community, allowing subscribers to focus on building their application rather than searching for Linux updates. Relevant updates are integrated, tested and made available on a regular basis via the Timesys Factory and Timesys Git.”
Interested developers can see the new LinuxLink Update Service in action by attending the upcoming “Building an Internet Radio on the Freescale i.MX31PDK” webinar series. Over the course of four bi-monthly sessions, attendees will be exposed to the common embedded Linux development tasks associated with building a Linux-based product, such as setting up a development environment, configuring and booting an initial Linux image from flash, customizing the kernel and root filesystem to support graphics, common codecs and streaming audio playback, and tracking/applying relevant community updates.
The “Building an Internet Radio on the Freescale i.MX31PDK” webinar series is free to attend. The first session is scheduled for March 2, 2009 @ 11:30am EST. Individuals can learn more about the series and register at https://linuxlink.timesys.com/3/Webinars/imx31pdk_internet_radio.
