Toshiba offers a USIM-cards for NFC-phones
It is possible that a few years mobile phones will become a universal wallet, and they can be easily pay for a trip on the subway, and for a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Company Toshiba has contributed to the further development of contactless payment technology using mobile phones, announced a new standard USIM-card (Universal Subscriber Identity Module), which will replace the normal SIM-card.
USIM-cards specifically designed for use with mobile phones supporting NFC (Near Field Communication), was established for contactless payment services. Toshiba will demonstrate the first examples of such cards are already on next week in Barcelona at the World Mobile Congress.
Toshiba claims that the new USIM-cards meet all the requirements of the European Telecommunication Standards Institute in the field of smart cards, as well as specifications GSMA (GSM Association). In addition, they are compatible with the Pay-Buy-Mobile, which was developed under the auspices of GSMA.
Japanese manufacturer plans to complete work on the USIM-cards during the third quarter of 2009 to submit samples of the cards first mobile operator.
