Asustek to launch first Qualcomm-based 3G smartphone
Asustek Computer has stepped up its cooperation with Qualcomm and the company is expected to launch soon its first Qualcomm-based smartphone, the P835, according to market sources.
The P835 is powered by a Qualcomm 7201A single-chip dual-core solution and runs on Windows Mobile. It features a 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen display and supports HSDPA/HSUPA, Wi-Fi, AGPS and Bluetooth, according to company data.
While the P835 will still bear the Asus trade name, other new smartphones launched after the P835 will be marketed under the Garmin-Asus dual-brand, the sources noted.
In addition, most smartphones and Android-powered phones developed jointly by Garmin and Asustek will adopt Qualcomm's chipset solutions, with only a certain proportion still using chipsets from Marvell, the sources indicated.
Asustek will also develop netbooks and MIDs (mobile Internet devices) using the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform, the sources added.
