AT&T Named Preferred Wireless Carrier for Educational & Institutional Cooperative Purchasing, Inc.
Relationship Brings Cost-Effective Wireless Voice and Data Services to More Than 1,600 Higher-Education Organizations
AT&T* today announced that it has been named the preferred wireless carrier for Educational & Institutional (E&I) Cooperative Purchasing, Inc. AT&T will offer cost-effective wireless voice and data services to E&I's members comprised of higher-education institutions and other educationally focused organizations.
The five-year agreement between AT&T and E&I, the largest higher-education purchasing consortium in North America, provides colleges and universities the opportunity to leverage their spending power to obtain significant discounts on wireless devices, accessories and voice and data plans for their employees and students.
"After evaluating several service providers, we ultimately selected AT&T because of the value and depth of mobility solutions and devices offered to our entire community, which includes more than 2,000 students," said Dan Wells, director of administrative services, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. "Leveraging both the Windows Mobile® and iPhone platforms, we're implementing a new wireless, unified communications platform that will provide admissions, development, student affairs and executive staff with the ability to stay connected with Institute constituents and the campus community. In addition, we've eliminated the need for third-party applications or servers, which were previously required for our mobile devices, as it will all now be managed by AT&T."
Carl Done, vice president-Higher Education, AT&T Business Solutions, said: "This strategic relationship with E&I demonstrates AT&T's commitment to serve higher education. Wireless voice and data services are essential to higher education, and this agreement helps colleges and universities benefit from the nation's fastest 3G network, a comprehensive portfolio of solutions and a dedicated services organization — all focused on the unique requirements of higher education and at the most competitive price."
E&I, a nonprofit buying cooperative established by members of the National Association of Educational Procurement (NAEP), provides goods and services at the best value to more than 1,600 colleges, universities, K-12 schools, hospitals, medical research institutions and hospital purchasing organizations throughout the United States.
"Colleges and universities are always looking for ways to creatively conserve finances and leverage cost savings, particularly in today's economy," said Dick Scharff, executive director of contracts, E&I. "With solutions and support designed specifically to meet the unique requirements of higher-education institutions, AT&T is simply the best choice for wireless services for our members."
