Synnex foresees growing PC sales in China in March-May 2009
Synnex Technology International, the largest distributor of IT and consumer electronics products in Taiwan, expects its revenues from sales of PCs and peripherals in the China market to increase considerably during March-May 2009 due to the government's subsidy program for rural areas, according to the company.
The China government on March 5 selected 14 own-brand vendors of PCs and peripherals from 21 open-bid competitors for the subsidization program. Successful vendors consist of 11 China-based companies, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Dell and Taiwan-based Acer, Synnex Technology indicated. As Synnex Technology is a China marketing agent for HP and Acer as well as many China-based vendors including Lenovo, TCL, Founder, Tongfang and China Great Wall Computer, it foresees increased sales during the period from this week to May, Synnex Technology pointed out.
Synnex Technology has enjoyed growing sales of handsets in China due to the subsidy program beginning at the end of 2008, with its global sales revenues of handsets as a percentage of its total consolidated revenues rising from 11% in 2008 to 19% in January 2009, the company indicated.
Synnex Technology has set up a large retail network of about 14,000 local sales agents in 1,200 cities of varying sizes in China, the company pointed out. The proportion of its total consolidated revenues for the China market rose from 62% in the second half of 2008 to 66% in January 2009 and is expected to further increase to 70% in the second half of 2009, Synnex Technology indicated.
