Taiwan market: FET sees high proportion of revenues from non-voice services in 2008
Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) generated NT$7.18 billion (US$218 million), or 12.5% of its total revenues, from mobile non-voice services in 2008, with the revenue proportion being the highest among all operators of mobile communication service in Taiwan, according to the company.
Its main rivals, Chunghwa Telecom and Taiwan Mobile, both saw 9.6% of their total revenues from non-voice services in 2008, FET indicated.
Of FET's 2008 mobile non-voice revenues, 52% came from message-related service, 12% from music-related service, 10% from Internet-access service and WAP (Wireless Application Protocol)-access service each, 3% from commerce service, and 1% from games, the company said.
FET had 2.78 million 3G subscribers, 2.03 million 2G subscribers and 1.44 million users of its pre-paid cards as of the end of 2008, it indicated. The number of FET's 3G or HSDPA (3.5G) data card subscribers has increased from 123,800 at the end of 2008 to 133,000 currently, the company noted.
