PHOENIX and TAMPA, FL — Verizon Wireless’ network is ready to be a power hitter as baseball fans head to Grapefruit and Cactus league ballparks in Florida and Arizona to cheer on their favorite teams for Spring Training ‘09.
Verizon Wireless’ ongoing investments and enhancements of its network ensure that baseball fans can stay connected and enjoy a grand slam of popular products and services during Spring Training and throughout the 2009 professional baseball season. Verizon Wireless’ network in Florida and Arizona is prepared for the calls, text messages, and picture and video messages, Internet connections and other wireless traffic expected throughout the Spring Training season as thousands of fans get their first glimpse of the boys of summer.
In 2008 alone, Verizon Wireless invested nearly $155 million in its network coverage in Florida and nearly $120 million in its network coverage in Arizona. In both states this investment included enhancements to the company’s high-speed 3G wireless network, which allows customers to access advanced wireless services reliably and at fast broadband speeds. Verizon Wireless’ high-speed broadband network is available at Spring Training locations in Arizona and Florida.
Verizon Wireless has invested more than $50 billion since it was formed – $5.5 billion on average every year – to expand the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services. In each of the last four years, Verizon Wireless invested $6.5 billion or more to expand and advance its network.
Along with a game-ready network, Verizon Wireless offers wireless services that cover a lot of bases for baseball fans on the go:
•VZ Navigator(SM) – Customers can navigate spring training locations with VZ Navigator, an assisted GPS application that transforms a customer’s wireless handset into a powerful navigation device. VZ Navigator gives customers audible directions, helps locate nearby places, like hotels and restaurants, and provides maps of locations.
•ESPN MVP – With ESPN MVP, baseball fans can follow what is happening throughout the league all season with video highlights; alerts for scoring updates; and breaking news on players, teams and leagues – right on their V CAST phones.
•Mobile Web – Mobile Web gives Verizon Wireless customers access to news, tools and information from the nation’s top content providers. The simple, intuitive format makes it easy to access content from many categories, including News, Sports, Weather, Entertainment, Business, Email and more, allowing them to stay on top of e-mail and news while cheering for their favorite teams.
