ZTE to rank as one of top-5 handset makers globally in 2009, say observers
China-based handset maker ZTE is likely to rank as one of the top-5 handset makers globally in 2009 after the company saw its handset shipments increase 40% on year to 45 million units in 2008, according to market observers in Taiwan.
Through its cooperation with a number of service providers, including Vodafone, Hutchison, T-Mobile and other carriers in Italy and Australia, ZTE has expanded its product mix to include GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, Windows Mobile-enabled models, and recently touchscreen models, all targeting the low-cost segment.
In other news, the company has said that its overseas revenues grew 33.5% on year to 26.83 billion yuan (US$3.92 billion) in 2008, accounting for 60% of its total revenues.
