Kansas City Royals, AT&T and Cisco Deliver Innovative and New Sports Viewing Experience to Fans in Kauffman Stadium

Thanks to a new project between the Kansas City Royals and AT&T*, baseball fans will receive an immersive interactive video experience from Cisco at the newly renovated Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals. Under the project, the Royals have implemented Cisco StadiumVision™ which is a centrally managed, fast video processing and distribution technology that delivers customized video content to different sections of a stadium in standard and high definition format. With the deployment of Cisco StadiumVision, baseball fans will be closer to the game and their favorite players on the field.

As part of this technology deployment at Kauffman Stadium, AT&T re-sold the Cisco StadiumVision video technology to the Royals along with AT&T local and long distance services and AT&T Managed Internet Service to improve the overall fan experience. As part of the solution, AT&T designed and installed the state of the art Cisco network infrastructure including IP telephony which will allow full integration of video, voice, data and wireless services into one next-generation network that connects the team to its fans in new ways. Fans will be able to view sports news and scores, weather and traffic without missing a moment of game action on the field.

With the Cisco StadiumVision implementation, more than 400 video monitors have been deployed throughout Kauffman Stadium. Cisco StadiumVision allows the Royals to more cost-effectively deliver live game video and customized content to each video monitor throughout the stadium, addressing the needs of multiple fans and venue patrons. After games, the video monitors can provide fans and stadium patrons with exit directions, traffic information and real-time weather updates.

During stadium renovations, AT&T also provided a hosted solution designed such that the Royals organization could more efficiently transition into the renovated facility without interruption to business operations. “Technology enables us to enrich the experience for our fans, who are celebrating 40 years of Royals baseball this year,” said Kevin Uhlich, senior vice president of business operations for the Kansas City Royals. “AT&T and Cisco not only enable us to put more fans in the seats, but also generate additional revenue through offering innovative advertising opportunities to our partners.”
