LG to release new phone with square display?

LG is reported to be working on a new mobile phone that will be run on Windows Mobile and will include a square display.

The new phone, to be known as the GW610, will feature a display packing in 320x320 pixels. An unusual configuration when you consider that phones (and monitors, in fact) have a rectangular shape.

The market is awash with Windows-related handsets, but it might come as a surprise that LG only has three phones that support the software: the KS20, Incite and the LG GM730 (which hasn't even been released yet).

This announcement comes on the back of the leaked information that the manufacturer is to release 10 smartphones by the end of 2009, according to the Cellpassion Mobi website.

The GW610, which has yet to be given any form of price or distribution information, will arrive with a two-megapixel camera and HSDPA data transfer facilities.
