Acer has joined the Open Patent Alliance to advance WiMAX

With the development of WiMAX technology company Acer has joined the Open Patent Alliance (OPA). The main goal of this organization is licensing the use of patented technologies relating to the development of WiMAX-solutions and products. It was expected that the decision would help Acer release new devices and the dissemination of new technology for wireless mobile communications.

Alliance OPA was established in June 2008, stakeholders in the development of WiMAX. At the moment (apart from Acer) it includes Alcatel-Lucent, Alvarion, Cisco, Clearwire, Huawei Technologies, Intel and Samsung Electronics. The main objective of participants in the alliance is to develop new equipment and software to work with WiMAX, broadening the range of available solutions all over the world.
