DiGi subscribers in Klang Valley to enjoy improved communications experience
Nokia Siemens Networks appointed to expand and modernize DiGi’s 2G network in densely populated region.
Subscribers of Malaysian operator DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (“DiGi”) in the densely populated Klang Valley region will soon benefit from an improved mobile experience with greater coverage, better call quality, and added features. DiGi is modernizing its 2G network to address the needs of a growing subscriber base, and cope with increasing traffic, while maximizing energy efficiency and cost savings. Nokia Siemens Networks will undertake this upgrade, which is expected to be completed in November 2009.
“In step with global trends, subscriber demand across Malaysia is increasing – and improving the customer experience is key to not only retaining customers, but also to attracting new ones,” said Ole Martin Gunhildsbu, DiGi’s Chief Technology Officer. “We were looking for a technology provider with world class service competencies in rollout, project management and network optimization, and a strong energy efficient 2G product portfolio. Nokia Siemens Networks emerged as the ideal choice to strengthen our network to better serve our customers and reach DiGi’s target of 50% carbon emission reduction by end 2011.”
To upgrade DiGi’s network, Nokia Siemens Networks will implement its award winning Flexi Base Station – the industry’s smallest and most energy efficient offering which is modular and easy to implement. Nokia Siemens Networks will also undertake the network optimization and project management, and over a three-year period, provide maintenance and further support services to improve network efficiency and enhance the quality of service.
“Our Flexi Base Station combined with our services offerings is a winning proposition as it allows our customers to address their business and corporate responsibility needs efficiently. More specifically, it will help DiGi expand and improve the individual subscriber experience easily and cost effectively. It will also enable the operator to safeguard the environment and help it meet its carbon reduction targets,” said Lars Biese, Head of Asia South, Nokia Siemens Networks.
