Huawei recognised for its contribution to the industry at Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards 2009

Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions worldwide, announced it has received "Local optical network innovation award" for its leading PON and xDSL solutions deployed in the UK network and "Indoor residential services innovation award" for Singapore' s StarHub femtocell project at the Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards 2009.

Presenting the awards, Alan Burkitt-Gray, editor of Global Telecoms Business commented, "We were impressed by the quality and number of nominations this year — the most we have ever had — so it was a special triumph to be one of the winners this year. This was an outstanding project and well deserves its award. This project stood out, even though the competition was strong, and it just had to be one of the winners. Well done to all involved. The industry is seeing a wave of innovation which is making a huge difference — to the companies working in the industry and to all of us in business and as consumers. Congratulations to all the award winners."

"We are delighted to have been awarded these accolades by Global Telecoms Business," commented Samuel Sun, managing director, Huawei Technologies UK. "The awards recognise Huawei' s commitment to collaborating with its customers to ensure that they benefit from Huawei' s experience. In every project Huawei is quick to respond to customers' requirements with solutions that integrate innovation, quality, and value helping customers to achieve sustainable growth."

Huawei has provided the leading PON and xDSL technologies to enable leading UK service providers to deliver next generation access network to business and home-based customers. Users will enjoy remarkably faster upload and download speeds as well as the ability to access multiple services simultaneously without affecting connection speeds.

The second Huawei project that has been recognised at the Global Telecoms Business Innovation awards is its work with StarHub, the most innovative info-communications provider in Singapore. Under the brand name Homezone, StarHub successfully launched the world' s first commercial femtocell network in Nov 2008. Partnering with Huawei, StarHub delivers 3G voice, data and additional services to its customers in Singapore through its hyrid-fibre coaxial network using femtocell to offer a seamless fix-mobile convergence experience to end users. As a result, they enjoy significant cost-savings on their mobile phone bills.

Said Mr Peter Cook, StarHub's Vice President of Integrated Network Engineering: "More than anything else, we have been impressed by Huawei' s industry-leading 3G technology roadmaps and its ability to deliver fast-to-market and reliable next-generation wireless applications and services to our customers. We are delighted with our partnership with Huawei and look forward to working closely with Huawei to further enhance our mobile offering in future."
