AT&T, Communications Workers of America Reach Tentative Agreement in Legacy AT&T Corp. Contract Negotiations

AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) announced that it has reached a tentative agreement with the Communications Workers of America in core wireline contract negotiations for employees covered under the CWA Communications and Technologies contract. The agreement is the fourth with a bargaining unit representing the company’s core wireline employees.

Details of the agreement are expected to be announced on Friday.

The nationwide contract covers approximately 7,000 employees who work in locations across the country. The contract, which will be submitted to the union’s membership for a ratification vote in coming days, expired on April 4 and employees have worked under the terms of the expired contract while negotiations continued.

A total of about 57,500 employees – roughly half of those covered under AT&T’s core wireline contracts -- now have ratified or tentative agreements with AT&T. AT&T and the CWA announced on Aug. 7 ratification of a new contract in the Midwest Region (CWA District 4), and on Aug. 10 announced a tentative agreement in the West Region (CWA District 9). On Aug. 16, AT&T and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers announced a tentative agreement.

Negotiations are continuing in the other regions where contracts expired on April 4, as they did in Midwest, West, and Legacy AT&T Corp. They include AT&T East (CWA District 1) and Southwest (CWA District 6). Negotiations are also continuing in Southeast (CWA District 3), where contracts expired Aug. 8.

A total of about 120,000 employees are covered under the various contracts.
