RadioShack Recognizes Excellence and Innovation Among Leading Brands
Samsung Mobile receives 2009 Chairman's Award.
FORT WORTH, Texas -- To promote a spirit of innovation and collaboration with its business partners, RadioShack today announced honors for outstanding partners during the Company's annual leadership summit. In addition to honoring these partners, the summit also focused on product previews, operational excellence, business strategy, this year's launch of Team RadioShack and the Company's new affiliation with the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
"This year's momentum is building a lot of excitement as RadioShack quickly becomes the leading specialist in mobility," said Julian C. Day, chairman and CEO of RadioShack Corp. "Our customers increasingly understand that The Shack has the expertise and innovative products they need for a connected life, and that we're eager to serve as their trusted advocate."
Day presented the 2009 Chairman's Award to Samsung Mobile, honoring a strategic partnership that's spanned nearly a decade. Samsung's comprehensive approach to the relationship has helped RadioShack sell more than 6.5 million Samsung devices with major wireless carriers in the last five years alone. RadioShack presented additional awards for mobility, wireless solutions, consumer electronics and innovation:
•Mobility. Sprint is the "2009 Mobility MVP Vendor of the Year," a relationship through which RadioShack has sold more than 20 million phones and devices over the past 15-plus years. Acer received special recognition for development of the netbook and ultra-thin notebook computers, key elements of RadioShack's mobility strategy.
•Solutions and accessories. Proctor & Gamble, owner of the Duracell brand of batteries, is the "2009 Solutions MVP Vendor of the Year," honored for the depth of its support in expanding RadioShack's power-supply segment. Proctor & Gamble CEO Bob McDonald discussed the spirit of collaboration and the importance of innovation in keynote remarks at the summit. Xentris (pronounced "zentris") received special recognition for its contributions to improving production of wireless handsets and developing an exclusive line-up of power accessories for RadioShack's wireless segment.
•Consumer electronics. SanDisk is the "2009 Consumer Electronics MVP Vendor of the Year," RadioShack's exclusive supplier of flash-memory products. Casio received special recognition for its support in the digital imaging category.
•Innovation. Three partners were honored based on product quality: magicJack, producer of a top-selling VoIP communications device; Boost, the first nationwide no-contract wireless carrier to offer unlimited calling; and Motorola, for its comprehensive vision of strategic partnership with RadioShack.
"We're focused on becoming the most respected mobility retailer, with incomparable expertise in our stores and the finest array of innovative products," said Peter Whitsett, executive vice president and general merchandising manager for RadioShack.
"That's a commitment we can keep only through the powerful partnerships we have established with the most respected brands in mobility and consumer electronics," Whitsett said. "We deeply appreciate the spirit of collaboration and enthusiasm we enjoy with these partners. It's a privilege to celebrate our successes together."
The summit concluded with a surprise appearance by Lance Armstrong. The seven-time winner of the Tour de France joined the event following the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Summit in Dublin, Ireland, and shared with the group his enthusiasm for the partnership and how it can support the Lance Armstrong Foundation in the global fight against cancer. The Company recently announced a partnership with Armstrong to launch professional cycling's Team RadioShack in 2010 as well as supporting the LIVESTRONG Challenge Series and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
