RuggedCom RuggedRouter® Certified On The Verizon Wireless Network To Provide EV-DO Rev A Service

WOODBRIDGE, ONTARIO, CANADA, AND BASKING RIDGE, NJ — RuggedCom Inc. (“RuggedCom”) (TSX:RCM), a leading provider of rugged communications networking solutions designed for mission-critical applications in harsh environments, has announced the RuggedRouter® RX1000 and RX1100 series routers are approved for use on the Verizon Wireless network through the wireless operator’s open development program.

The RuggedRouter® is an industrially hardened cyber security appliance with integrated router, firewall, and VPN functionality. Ideally suited for electric power utilities, the industrial plant floor, and traffic control systems, the RX1000 is designed to protect and secure SCADA system networks connected directly to the Internet, or within a company's Wide Area Network (WAN) or Local Area Network (LAN).

The RuggedRouter® is hardened to the RuggedRated™ specification which provides a high level of immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and heavy electrical surges typical of the harsh environments found in many industrial applications. An operating temperature range of -40 to +85°C (-40 to +185°F) allows the RX1000 to be placed in almost any location. For applications requiring high availability, the RX1000 provides the option for integrated dual redundant power supplies each capable of accommodating a wide range of input voltages for worldwide operability. Also unique is the ability to have each power supply fed from different voltage levels and/or sources thereby providing great flexibility in creating high availability systems.

The RuggedCell™ Evolution-Data Optimized Revision A (EV-DO Rev A) option for the RuggedRouter® enables users to extend network boundaries, reaching remote sites with broadband throughputs and built in quality of service. Ideal as either cost effective primary or backup connection, the router establishes an “always on” data connection and has built in capability to provide dual WAN redundancy options.

“We are pleased to announce the RuggedRouter® RX1000 family’s availability on the Verizon Wireless network,” commented Elik Jaeger, Vice President, RuggedWireless™. “With the open development certification of the RuggedRouter® RX1000 and RX 1100, RuggedCom customers have access to Verizon Wireless’ nationwide footprint of broadband wireless coverage.”

Verizon Wireless’ open development program provides customers with the option to use wireless devices not offered directly by the nation’s leading wireless provider, such as devices from RuggedCom, on the most reliable voice and data network in the country. Verizon Wireless’ open development program is driven by the company’s desire to encourage innovation, give customers new wireless choices, and quickly address opportunities to expand the wireless market. The company continues to provide full-service offerings for business and consumer customers. Verizon Wireless and RuggedCom are currently engaged in a trial with a major electric power utility.
