Seven Taiwan companies and organizations join 3GPP
With an aim to develop related LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology and products, a total of seven Taiwan-based companies and organizations - HTC, Asustek Computer, HT mMobile, Coiler, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), the Institute for Information Industry (III), and the Telecommunication Laboratories of Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) - have joined the 3GPP, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
Their participation in the 3GPP will help push the formation of a LTE ecosystem in Taiwan, said the sources, noting that HTC and Asustek will be able to cover production of CPE products such as handsets and notebooks, while HT mMobile, a subsidiary of IC design house Sunplus Technology, will engage in the development of related chips.
In addition, Coiler, a maker of RF repeaters, can step into component production, whereas ITRI, III and CHT will handle integration of technology and applications as well as telecom services, the sources noted.
