Taiwan 3G operator APBT plans for IPO
Asia Pacific Broadband Telecom (APBT), the only 3G mobile telecom carrier in Taiwan that adopts the CDMA2000 standard, will file an application for IPO (initial public offering) in Taiwan's stock market by August 21, with its IPO schedule expected to be available in October 2009, according to decision made by the company's board of directors on August 14.
APBT plans to procure 700,000 handsets in 2009 through joint procurement with China Telecom, the only CDMA2000 mobile telecom carrier in China, and to begin upgrading its infrastructure to 3.5G CDMA EVDO (evolution data only), the company said. To fund these projects, APBT plans to apply for new loans from a local bank, the company indicated.
APBT on August 14 also released its January-July 2009 results, posting revenues of NT$10.172 billion (US$310 million), EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, amortization) of NT$2.198 billion, net profit of NT$457 million, and net earnings per share (EPS) of NT$0.14.
