Taiwan handset makers to ship over 12 million smartphones in 3Q09, says paper
Shipments of smart cellular devices (smartphones and PDA phones) by Taiwan handset makers are expected to top 12.05 million units in the third quarter of 2009, up 29% from 9.34 million units shipped in the second quarter, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report citing data from the Taipei-based Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC).
Shipments of the HTC Hero by HTC (High Tech Computer), Apple's iPhone 3GS by Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) and Palm's Pre by Foxconn International Holdings (FIH) will help push smartphone shipments for the third quarter, MIC was quoted as saying.
The 9.34 million smartphones shipped in the second quarter represented an increase of 38.9% sequentially and 30.5% on year, whereas second-quarter shipment revenues reached US$2.87 billion, climbing 41.4% on quarter and 34.7% on year, MIC data showed.
