Russia's students will create programs for Maemo
Opens today, Russia's first academy opened infocomm technologies, established at the St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (SPbGUAP) and the project FRUCT. Draft FRUCT was founded more than two years ago, the university co-operation of Nokia Corporation in conjunction with SPbGUAP and the University of Turku (Finland) and is currently maintained by recognized world leaders in the field of innovative mobile technologies and network infrastructure - Research Center, Nokia (Nokia Research Center), by Nokia Siemens Networks, and the community Symbian Foundation.
The main purpose of the Academy - the creation of a new Russia, as well as assistance in uncovering the existing competencies in the development of open source software (software), with emphasis on telecommunications. The core of the Academy form two existing FRUCT group - a group of software development for the Maemo operating system and the laboratory development of mobile software and services (Mobile Software & Services).
Over the past two years to FRUCT joined 18 universities of Russia, Finland and Denmark, making the project one of the most significant programs of research collaboration in the field of telecommunications in the region. The project conducts research and development on a wide range of problems in the field of mobile technology and telecommunications, including such as: Platform for OSS / MAEMO, «intelligent spaces (Smart Spaces), networking technology (Network Technologies), built-in network (Embedded Networks ), software and services for mobile devices (Mobile Software and Services), mobile video (Mobile Video), research and development in the area of social responsibility and the environment (Social responsible and Green R & D), energy savings (Energy management) and others.
