Sagem Communications Offers Red Bend's Innovative FOTA Software for its M2M Modules and Devices
Sagem Communications has selected an innovative solution to provide an extended lifetime to its range of M2M devices and reduce the opex of its customers' M2M solutions. The following M2M markets recognize that enhanced lifetime is key when launching a new product: Automotive, Smart Metering, Payment Terminals, Alarm and Security.
WALTHAM, Mass., -- Sagem Communications has selected the best-in-class solution for firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updating from Red Bend Software. With Red Bend's FOTA software, Sagem Communications will offer its customers software improvements and new functionality for its M2M modules, enabling quick response to any change request. •Fast and efficient: delivering only the essential differences between firmware versions to the remote M2M modules without having to send the entire new firmware image over the air, which significantly saves on bandwidth and usage charges. The firmware size can be reduced up to 97%.
•Secure and reliable: Using a patented pre-installation technical verification, this solution verifies that the newly created software version is 100% accurate and will install properly, prior to the update process beginning. It eliminates the risk of disabling devices due to errors or unexpected disruptions in the update process. In the event of a power loss, it automatically resumes the update from the point of interruption.
"This innovative FOTA software will enable new services and significantly increase the value propositions to our customers," says Eric Rieul, Director of Energy & Telecom Business Unit in Sagem Communications.
"Red Bend's FOTA software is being used to keep M2M module software up-to-date with changing standards and customer requirements, and to remotely perform software updates in a fast and reliable manner," said Yoram Salinger, CEO of Red Bend Software. "Red Bend is proud to have been selected by Sagem Communications to further our expansion into M2M with Sagem Communications' tier one customers in the automotive, smart metering, payment terminals, and the alarm and security markets."
Red Bend's FOTA software is available with Hilo and HiloNC auto cellular modules in the first stage. This new range of GPRS modules offer smart, small and power safe solutions to M2M markets. Sagem Communications already plans to extend FOTA services to a new range of M2M devices.
Sagem Communications is a leading provider of M2M solutions, with already more than 14 million of cellular modules delivered worldwide. With its GPRS, EDGE and 3G modules range, Sagem Communications delivers solutions to the main M2M markets: Automotive, Smart Metering, Payment Terminals, Alarm and Security. All these M2M verticals recognize the added value of Sagem Communications in several areas:
•Enhanced modules range including the smallest, lightest and power safe Hilo module, as well as its new automotive grade variant;
•Outstanding technical support with documentation, development tools, on-site support, development, qualification and certification services; and
•Privileged industrialization service with a skilled team used to manufacture mass market communication devices through a wide footprint of factories.
