Asustek plans to establish joint venture with Garmin in 2010
Asustek Computer plans to establish a joint venture with Garmin in 2010, aiming to push sales of Garmin-Asus dual-brand smartphones, according to industry sources.
Asustek has said earlier that the Garmin-Asus team aims to ship one million handsets in 2010.
The project for upgrading the cooperation between the two companies from a strategic alliance relationship to a joint venture is still under planning, said Benson Lin, vice president and general manager of personal mobile devices business unit at Asustek.
In addition to teaming up with Taiwan Mobile and Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) to push handset sales in the Taiwan market, and with AT&T in North America, Asustek also looks to establish business ties with telecom carriers in Singapore, Malaysia and other markets, the Chinese-language Commercial Times quoted Lin as indicating.
