Taiwan market: HTC expects strong sales for Android-powered HTC Tattoo smartphones
HTC (High Tech Computer) expects total sales of its newly released Android-powered HTC Tattoo smartphones in the Taiwan market to surpass the Windows Mobile-based HTC Touch it launched in 2007, according to Jack Tong, vice president of Asia business at HTC.
HTC launched the HTC Tattoo in cooperation with Taiwan Mobile (TWM) on October 13 with a suggested retail price of NT$13,900 (US$430), targeting the mid-range segment.
Sales of HTC's Touch smartphone totaled about 200,000 units during its two-year business circle, making the model the best-selling HTC handset in the local market, according to an estimate by market sources.
Meanwhile, HTC also expects domestic sales of its Hero model, which the company launched jointly with Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) in August, to exceed the combined sales of its Diamond and Victor handsets for the past year, Tong added.
Sales of the HTC Diamond and HTC Victor are estimated to have reached 100,000 units from their launches in 2008, market sources indicated.
The HTC Hero carries a suggested retail price of NT$20,900.
