Verizon Wireless Supports Commerce Chairman Rockefeller's Efforts To Ban Texting While Driving

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. — Verizon Wireless Vice President and General Counsel Steven E. Zipperstein said the company supports legislation introduced by U.S. Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John (“Jay”) D. Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) to effectively ban texting and e-mailing while driving.

Zipperstein made the following statement:

“Verizon Wireless endorses federal legislation to ban texting and e-mailing while driving, and we support Chairman Rockefeller, as well as Sens. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Tx.), Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) for championing this important issue. As the largest wireless service provider, we launched a national ad campaign just this week to bring that message home. Drivers should keep their hands on the steering wheel and off their keypads.”
