Arcadyan teams up with FET to develop femtocells
Taiwan-based network equipment maker Arcadyan Technology has teamed up with Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) to develop indoor femtocells, according to a press release from Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).
The MOEA said that it has approved the cooperation plan as a project eligible for government financial aid, as femtocell development will help integrate industrial technologies and improve the core competitiveness of Taiwan makers.
The ministry estimated global demand for femtocells will reach 35 million units by 2012.
Telecom carriers, including Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint Nextel, NTT DoCoMo and Vodafone have all begun to offer related femtocell services, according to a report by Digitimes Research.
In the China market, China Unicom also launched femtocell services in November, while two other 3G carriers China Mobile and China Telecom are currently testing their related femtocell deployments, Digitimes Research said.
