HTC to delay Qualcomm Brew MP handsets to early 2010, say sources
HTC (High Tech Computer) will delay the launch of its Qualcomm Brew Mobile Platform (Brew MP)-based high-end feature handsets to early 2010 instead of the fourth quarter of 2009 as originally planned, according to market sources.
The delays were caused by the Brew's relatively immature application service platform offering for telecom carriers, said the sources, noting that Qualcomm is currently cooperating with a number of mobile software developers to work on dedicated applications for the Brew platform including a Java virtual machine, customized wed browser, mobile community services, multimedia management and GPS services, among others.
US telecom service providers Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel will be the initial carriers to offer the Brew MP handsets, the sources indicated.
