Media Advisory/Interview Opp - Tim Conrad of Taylor, Michigan the 2009 Yahoo! Rock Paper Scissors World Champion
TORONTO -- Contestants from across the world converged in Toronto last night to put their Rock Paper Scissors talents to the test with the hope of returning home with the coveted championship title.
The World RPS Society and Yahoo! Canada are pleased to announce that after five hours of play and nine grueling matches on Saturday night, Tim Conrad will proudly bring home the title to Taylor, Michigan.
Facing off against his best friend and teammate in the first all-American final in World Championship history Conrad took down Tom Butkin with paper covering rock. While it was Conrad's first time attending the big event, his team, Elite 47, have been coming out for the past four years.
"Each year the championship gets bigger, better and more intense," says Doug Walker, co-founder, World RPS Society. "This year we saw not only record-breaking numbers at the event, but also a dramatic final match between two best friends vying for the top prize."
To become the World Champion, Conrad, dressed as Captain America in support of his home country, threw down against seasoned RPS veterans spanning all parts of Canada and the US, country champs and competitors from as far away as Australia, New Zealand, France, Mexico and Norway, all of whom came to compete last night.
"It was another year of exciting matches and intense competition," says Dave Soyka, Marketing Manager at Yahoo! Canada. "We applaud the grit and determination showed by all the competitors, and share Tim's excitement in his victory as the Yahoo! RPS World Champion."
Interview opportunities are available with the World Champion, as well as with the co-founder of the event and the World RPS Society, Doug Walker, and/or the head referee, Brad Fox.
