MegaFon covered 100% of mobile communication stations of the Moscow metro
By early January Metropolitan Branch of OJSC "MegaFon" has completed large-scale project to deploy a mobile network in the Moscow subway. As the operator, to date, certain radio coverage provided almost all the underground subway station. Now, using the underground transport, subscribers are free to make calls, send SMS and access the Internet through the mobile network MegaFon.
According to Igor Akulinina, Deputy Director of the Metropolitan branch of OJSC "MegaFon", the deployment of a mobile network in the Moscow subway MegaFon took five years, while other operators have built underground network for much longer. The operator locates the base stations so as to ensure high-quality mobile communications, not only at stations and crossings, but in a number of tunnels. The next phase of the project - the active deployment in the metro network 3G.
On the eve of the new year, Muscovites have access to 3G services in several stations and Zamoskvoretskaya Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya lines. In the plans of mobile operators in 2010 - the opening of new 3G base stations in the subway and work to further improve the network in traveling between stations.
