NII Holdings Announces an Agreement With Intelfon for International Direct Connect(SM) Services in El Salvador

Nextel subscribers in Latin America and Intelfon subscribers in El Salvador will now communicate instantly using International Direct Connect.

RESTON, Va., -- NII Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: NIHD), a leading provider of mobile communication services operating under the Nextel brand in Latin America, announced an agreement with Intelfon S.A. de C.V., operating under the RED brand, in El Salvador to extend their International Direct Connect service. International Direct Connect is an extension of NII's high-performance Push-to-Talk service, DirectConnect®, which allows users to communicate instantly at the push of a button.

With the launch of this service, Intelfon subscribers in El Salvador and approximately 7.7 million of Nextel's subscribers in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Peru will be able to communicate instantly across national borders.

"Integrating Intelfon in El Salvador with NII's International Direct Connect network represents yet another way in which we bring Nextel customers in Latin America differentiated wireless benefits," said Greg Santoro, VP, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer, NII Holdings. "Now, our subscribers doing business in that country will be able to communicate instantly, conveniently and without additional costs, something that no other operator in El Salvador currently offers."

"Intelfon is pleased to provide its customers with additional services, as a result of its partnership with NII Holdings," said Juan Carlos Jimenez, CEO. "This integration is part of our commitment to deliver the most efficient communications solution to our customers."

NII Holdings' subsidiaries in Latin America have been using International Direct Connect to communicate with each other since 2004. The instant connectivity service with the push of a button has enjoyed a great deal of success.

Utilizing Motorola iDEN® (Integrated Digital Enhanced Network) technology, International Direct Connect is a natural extension of Nextel's Push-to-Talk service, which provides cost-effective communications with unmatched speed, reach and clarity. It also provides immediate access to iDEN wireless networks in North and South America.
