Vantrix partnership to optimize mobile video

Vantrix, the global leader of mobile video optimization and delivery, announced on March 15 that it has been selected by Ericsson to be its partner in video optimization. This partnership is designed to address the explosive growth in mobile video.

Under the terms of the agreement, Ericsson will be bundling the Vantrix Bandwidth Optimizer with its own Multiservice Proxy mobile broadband traffic optimization solution.

The companies’ collaboration will ensure Ericsson customers’ networks are optimized while maintaining a good quality of service for the end user.

The rapid rise in smartphone and tablet usage has increased data traffic, and in doing so, has created a need for further network investments on the operator’s behalf.

To accommodate this increase in data traffic, operators in the past have required a larger bandwidth and continuous infrastructure investments. Today, however, they are able to optimize and efficiently use their existing bandwidth though mobile internet data optimization solutions such as the latest Ericsson Multiservice Proxy platform. This reduces, and at times delays, the investment required in the operator’s core network without having to sacrifice quality of service for the end user.

Sanjay Kaul, Vice President, Consumer & Business Applications at Ericsson, says: “We predict that the number of global mobile broadband subscriptions will double during 2011, rising to 1 billion, and that video traffic will represent a significant portion of the overall mobile data traffic.”

“The partnership will address our customers’ need to efficiently manage – and optimize video content delivery over – mobile networks, where the quality of experience becomes key. The press release issued by Vantrix explained how the solution worked. ‘Vantrix Bandwidth Optimizer optimizes video and delivers it in real time while maintaining best-in-class Quality of Experience. Vantrix Bandwidth Optimizer provides up to 70 percent savings on network CAPEX and OPEX (RAN, backhaul and core) by dynamically monitoring network congestion and substantially reducing the size of videos.’

Allan Benchetrit, President and CEO of Vantrix said “Mobile video has become an integral part of daily life and it has transformed how consumers use their mobile phones. Over the last 2 years, as video has become more dominant in mobile networks, mobile subscribers have endured outages and reductions in speed, resulting in an unsatisfactory video experience.”

“We are very proud to partner with Ericsson to provide the market with the most advanced and efficient mobile video technology. Our solution is the most advanced to control, optimize and manage the delivery of video in mobile networks, while actually improving the current viewing experience.”
