Ericsson drives next generation IPTV and cable services
compression portfolio with launch of Ericsson Multi-platform Stream Processor to address demand for higher-density video processing
Enables channel expansions and disaster recovery backup sites for operators
Ericsson portfolio of ground-breaking IPTV solutions demonstrated at NAB 2011
Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has launched the latest in its long line of high-end compression solutions for IPTV, the Ericsson Multi-platform Stream Processor. Further strengthening Ericsson’s compression market leadership position, the Ericsson Multi-platform Stream Processor is the highest density video and audio processing solution for Telco and Cable operators, giving consumers the quality they want and enabling the launch of additional services, migration to MPEG-4 AVC, time-shift TV ingest processing, and enables cost efficient disaster recovery sites for business continuity. The solution will debut at NAB, Las Vegas, April 11th-14th 2011 (booth SU3308).
“Our pedigree in compression worldwide and our significant market share in IPTV are key proof points of our overall leadership,” said Simon Frost, Head of IPTV Compression Solutions, Solution Area TV, Ericsson. “At NAB we’ll be demonstrating how these advanced compression solutions are enabling the vital bandwidth savings and reduced cost of ownership that Telcos require. The Ericsson Multi-platform Stream Processor is the most advanced in class, and joins an already unique and widely deployed Video Processor based high-end compression platform. The combination of the highest performance and highest density compression platforms of any vendor demonstrates how Ericsson is enabling operators to drive their business like no other. This latest addition further enhances Ericsson’s ground breaking portfolio and capabilities in television.”
Telco and Cable operators are seeking an increasingly broad feature set in linear TV processing, from very high density transcoding for increasingly large channel counts and time-shift TV ingest, as well as the addition of disaster recovery, to multiscreen video processing and significant performance enhancements in HD to reduce bandwidths and achieve greater quality. The Ericsson Multi-platform Stream Processor is a multi-format dense transcoder, enabling support for up to 24 HD or 72 SD MPEG-4 AVC or MPEG-2 services with concurrent PIP outputs. In addition, it can serve as a re-encoder for MPEG-2 services allowing for lower overall bit-rates or VBR to CBR conversion for applications like time-shift TV. The processor is perfectly suited for Telco and Cable IPTV platforms and represents the most efficient solution in its class
Ericsson has delivered over 19,000 IPTV channels. The Ericsson Multi-platform Stream Processor and Ericsson Video Processor Chassis build upon the enormous success of Ericsson’s EN8000 series encoders and iPlex encoders and transcoders. The Ericsson headend solution for IPTV encompasses reception solutions, video processing, and intelligent nCompass Control management system. This combination offers total control and management for IPTV and Cable operators.
Ericsson’s End to Endless (E2E) Television solutions and services enable broadcasters, content owners and platform operators to create, manage and deliver the most compelling TV services that consumers demand. These solutions enable both significant gains in operational efficiencies as well as critical growth in revenues.
