Ericsson powers unified TV for the multiscreen generation

Launches Media Delivery Management System – highly scalable solution for service delivery today and tomorrow
Offers service providers a centralized management system for delivering a unified TV experience across multiple devices
Consumers benefit from seamless interaction with content in the home or on the move
At the NAB trade show for broadcasters in Las Vegas, Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) launches the Media Delivery Management System, a successor of the Emmy award-winning OpenStream Digital Services Platform. The Media Delivery Management System is an all-new, purpose-built software technology with a highly-scalable, fault-tolerant system that includes a number of enterprise management features for flexible and adaptable service introduction and management.

"A decade ago we invented the back office system to respond to a burgeoning on-demand TV market. Today we are redefining it to address an increasingly interactive world where TV blends with mobility and social media,” says Andrew Rowe, Head of Application Software Product Management at Ericsson’s solution area TV. “The Media Delivery Management System isn’t just a next generation solution - it’s a game changer. It brings service providers unparalleled business agility with transactional speed, scale, and control, and exponentially enhances their ability to satisfy the multiscreen generation.”

Today’s consumers want the freedom and convenience of subscribing to a single TV service that they can access on the screen of their choice – anytime, anywhere. As this consumer desire shapes today’s television into an interactive, multiscreen experience, more content than ever is driving up video traffic and putting increased pressures on content management and delivery. This presents new challenges to service providers; not only in the acquisition and processing of high quality content but also in the management and efficient delivery of large volumes of video, media and audio across multiple platforms to multiple devices. Responding to an exciting new era in television, the Media Delivery Management System joins Ericsson’s portfolio of television solutions and services.

Features for the Media Delivery Management System includes:
dynamic routing and asynchronous messaging for quick and easy addition of service and applications
high-performance, document-oriented database for unlimited transactions
an open architecture using virtualization and cloud computing for increased capacity and unparalleled disaster recovery
integrated enterprise management and monitoring for increased operational efficiencies
adapter-based architecture to support third-party apps and services.
Ericsson provides an array of award-winning products including WatchPoint Content Management System and Xport Time Shift TV, and best-in-class solutions including Multiscreen TV, Hybrid Multiscreen TV, Converged Cable IPTV and high performance video compression. The Media Delivery Management System is an essential part of this complete line of open, customizable, and scalable products for enabling a unified multiscreen offering. With Ericsson's TV portfolio, service providers can offer device-aware TV services for seamless access to media, in the home or on the move.
