Kabel BW Deploys Motorola’s RX48 Module Unleashing the Full Potential of Its EuroDOCSIS® Network

Kabel BW migrates to innovative DOCSIS 3.0 RX48 decoupled upstream module and doubles the potential of their existing EuroDOCSIS return path

COLOGNE, Germany – ANGA Cable 2011 – Motorola Mobility, Inc announced that Kabel BW, one of the leading cable network operators in Germany, has gone live with Motorola’s RX48 decoupled upstream module. The Motorola RX48 module dramatically increased upstream capacity and upstream performance of the BSR 6400 Integrated Cable Modem Termination System (I-CMTS). With the RX48 module, Kabel BW can economically meet growing demand for increased broadband throughput needed to support enhanced consumer experiences by achieving up to 280 MB\s upstream throughput on their existing EuroDOCSIS® return path.

The addition of the Motorola RX48 module enables Kabel BW to offer its end-users higher speeds at a much lower cost per channel. Once installed with the RX48 module, Motorola’s BSR 64000 I-CMTS solution more than doubles the total upstream density per BSR 64000 versus previous DOCSIS® 2.0 configurations. The combination of DOCSIS 3.0, the RX48 with Motorola’s low-noise, high-dynamic range front technology and S-CDMA are what makes these speeds possible. Kabel BW is now able to support 100 Mb\s of upstream channel bonding over three standard 5-65MHz EuroDOCSIS channels where alternative CMTS solutions require four channels.

“Kabel BW focuses on delivering the highest and most reliable bandwidths for our customers. With Motorola’s DOCSIS solutions we are able to provide stable Internet connections with speeds up to 100 MB/s in our whole network,” said Ludwig Modra, head of network operation and engineering department, Kabel BW.

Through this highly scalable solution, Motorola can help cable operators achieve substantial capital savings over traditional upstream and downstream modules. In addition, the RX48 assists green initiatives by reducing per channel power consumption by 81 percent over previous modules.

”We are excited that Kabel BW has now gone live with Motorola’s RX48 module, the most advanced upstream solution available today,” said Steve McCaffery, vice president and general manager, Home business EMEA, Motorola Mobility. “Cable operators are challenged with having to increase the upstream capacity of their network in the face of overcrowding headends and increasing operational costs. Motorola’s RX48 delivers market-leading upstream density and Kabel BW can exploit the full potential of the upstream spectrum to enable impressive increases in speeds and capacity.”
