LG Optimus 3D finally gets upgraded to Gingerbread

LG has began rolling out Android 2.3 to the Optimus 3D, two days later than originally promised.

The update, available now for SIM free Optimus 3D smartphones, promises to bring a host of new features to the three-dimensional smartphone. Besides the usual redesigned interface and boosted battery life, LG last week claimed that Gingerbread will also equip its 3D smartphone with: enhanced HSPA+ (up to 21Mbps) internet speeds, a 3D video editor, 2D video stabilization, faster image gallery activation, and longer MP3 playback time.

“These enhanced features included in our customized Android 2.3 upgrade will allow users to further integrate 3D into their everyday lives, as we make the technology more accessible and enjoyable on smartphones,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG

Don’t go getting too excited, however. According to Optimus 3D owners over on the XDA Forums, a bunch of these features are still missing from the smartphone. Also, the update’s not yet available for network locked handset – with no news as to when it will become available. We’ve been in touch with LG for further information.
